Dealing With Deer Damage?
If you’re here because deer are destroying your property, you probably have questions:
- Why is my garden being destroyed? — Understanding Sussex deer pressure and why standard deterrents fail
- Do deer deterrents actually work? — Honest answers about sprays, devices, and fencing
- Can I legally shoot deer on my property? — Legal requirements and why most landowners choose professional management
The Problem
You’ve invested in your land—whether it’s a garden you’ve nurtured for years, woodland you’re trying to regenerate, crops you depend on, or simply a rural property you want to enjoy.
Then deer arrive.
The damage escalates quickly:
- Rose bushes stripped overnight
- Vegetable patches decimated
- Young trees ring-barked and killed
- Crops trampled and grazed
- Fencing destroyed
In the Ashdown Forest area, fallow deer populations have exploded. Without natural predators, they need management—and your land is bearing the cost of that absence.
The Solution
I offer a free deer management service for private landowners across East Sussex and the High Weald.
How it works:
- You contact me with details of your deer problem
- I visit your land for a free assessment—no obligation
- We agree an approach tailored to your property and concerns
- I manage the deer through humane, professional stalking
- You see results with reduced damage and deer pressure
There’s no cost to you. I operate early mornings, discreetly, with minimal disruption to your daily life.
Why Free?
I’m a passionate deer stalker who believes in ethical wildlife management. By providing free control services to landowners, I gain access to land for stalking while you get professional deer management at no cost.

Who I Work With
I provide deer management for all types of landowners, but some face particular challenges that benefit from a tailored approach.
Farmers — Crop damage, grazing competition, and the steady erosion of margins that deer cause on working farms. I understand agricultural calendars and work around your operation.
Estates — Coordinated management across multiple properties, liaising with gamekeepers and land agents, sustained population control rather than sporadic trophy stalking.
Woodland Owners — Enabling natural regeneration, protecting new planting, restoring the ground flora and understorey that deer have eliminated. Conservation-focused management.
Allotments — Site-wide protection that individual plot holders can’t achieve alone. I work with committees to reduce pressure across the whole site.
Private gardens and smallholdings remain the core of what I do. If deer are causing you problems, whatever your situation, I’m interested in talking.
Areas I Cover
I operate throughout the Ashdown Forest region and wider East Sussex:
- Ashdown Forest and surrounding parishes
- Crowborough, Uckfield, East Grinstead
- Forest Row, Hartfield, Nutley
- Maresfield, Buxted, Fletching

Frequently Asked Questions
Is it really free? Yes. I don’t charge landowners for deer control. My reward is access to quality stalking.
Is it legal? Absolutely. Deer stalking is legal in England when conducted by a qualified person with appropriate firearms certification, landowner permission, and in accordance with deer seasons and welfare legislation.
Is it humane? Yes. A well-placed rifle shot is the most humane method of deer control available. I’m trained to ensure clean, instant kills. Any animal not presenting a safe, humane shot is not taken.
Will it disturb my neighbours? I use sound moderators (suppressors) and operate at times when disturbance is minimal. Most neighbours never know I’ve been.
What happens to the deer? Carcasses are processed for venison. Nothing is wasted.
How often would you visit? Depends on deer pressure and your preferences. Could be weekly during peak seasons, monthly for maintenance, or occasional visits as needed.
Do I need to be present? No. Once we’ve established access arrangements, I can operate independently. Many landowners never see me at all.
What if I just want a one-off cull? That’s fine. Some landowners prefer ongoing management, others just need numbers reduced once. We’ll discuss what suits you.
